Welcome to the Harrison County Substance Abuse

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world: indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” ~ Margaret Mead

What is a coalition?
A coalition is an alliance of individuals or groups that come together to form partnerships for a common purpose. Coalitions have been used successfully in the United States to tackle a number of seemingly intractable problems. Putting together a broad-based coalition can bring substantial dividends. Bringing a diverse group of people together in pursuit of a common goal is how a comprehensive prevention program starts.
Diverse participants provide a variety of skills, experience, and points of views, as well as access to important target populations, i.e. youth, the media, business, policy makers and others. Each coalition member or member organization can contribute their particular expertise or resources to facilitate activities of the coalition as a whole. By working together, members often find they can more effectively and easily solve mutual problems. By pooling resources, coalition members multiply opportunities.
A grassroots coalition can be the eyes and ears of the community and provide important intelligence information. It is important to know what is going on in all sectors of the community. One person, or even a small staff, cannot know everything that is relevant to an issue, including information about related programs and potential funding. A coalition coordinator can solicit and collate the information available from individual members to better educate and prepare everyone.
This coalition website will serve as a guide and reference tool for the Harrison County Community to find ways of helping the Harrison County Community with the issue of Substance Abuse. Thank you for visiting and join us.
